Citrus Bioflavonoid & Vitamin C
Bioflavonoids have antioxidant properties thought to be particularly beneficial for capillary strength. Bioflavonoids from citrus fruits are believed to work with vitamin C to promote immune system health.
Multiple bioflavonoid complexes derived from citrus fruits are often combined with vitamin C. compounds commonly featured in citrus bioflavonoid supplements include hesperidin, named as Rutin, Naringin, & Quercetin. These phytonutrients are thought to be vital for proper absorption of Vitamin C. Hesperidin is found most abundantly in the peel and membranous parts of lemons and oranges. Hesperidin is often used for the treatment of varicose veins and hemorrhoids. A deficiency of hesperidin in the diet has been linked with abnormal capillary function, extremity pain and leg cramps. Rutin & Quercetin are the strongest bioflavonoid anti-oxidants. As such, these 2 bioflavonoids have very powerful anti-inflammatory benefits. They seem to have their greatest effects on the bloodstream and capillary beds, and have also been shown to be highly effective at preventing and treating varicose veins. Rutin & Quercetin are found in large quantities in the fruits and rinds of lemons, limes, grapefruits, & oranges.
Vitamin C used as a natural cold remedy. The nutrient is featured in supplements promising to boost the immune system. Nobel laureate Dr. Linus Pauling famously claimed that taking large doses of vitamin C helps to reduce cold severity.
Most colds are caused by a type of virus called rhinovirus, which thrives and multiplies in the nasal passages and throat (upper respiratory system). Zinc may work by preventing the rhinovirus from multiplying. It may also stop the rhinovirus from lodging in the mucous membranes of the throat and nose.
Selenium deficiency can cause you to have a decreased immune system response that can cause you to be more susceptible to the flu and to other viral infections that can even lead to Heart failure from Selenium deficiency. Influenza can be extremely serious, leading to pneumonia or even death. Selenium deficiency can cause the influenza virus to change into a more deadly virus that can then be given to others who were already immune to the previous influenza virus strain.
Proprietary blend Goldenseal with Echinacea
Goldenseal is often recommended by herbalists in combination with Echinacea for the treatment of colds and flu. Its benefits are most likely limited to helping ease the discomfort of a sore throat associated with these conditions. Goldenseal is effective against a wide range of bacteria and other pathogens, evidence for goldenseal’s purported immune-boosting effects is lacking.
Goldenseal with Echinacea used as an immune-activating herb and natural antibiotic treatment for colds, according to New York University Medical Center. It may, however, reduce cold symptoms by alleviating sore throat and irritated mucous membranes.
